Special Interest

Situated in the heart of Northumberland, Otterburn Mill is a picturesque tourist attraction that combines a fabulous location, fantastic heritage and great shopping. Easily accessible via the A69 and A68, Otterburn is located just 25 miles north of Newcastle International Airport and has free parking. The old mill encompasses a retail outlet, country café, Visitor Information Centre and relics of historic machinery as well as access to the 2-mile Otterburn Village Trail.

Otterburn Mill is most famous for it’s Pram Rugs. The Pram Rug was created in 1926 after a request was made from Buckingham Palace for a blanket upon the birth of Princess Elizabeth. Left over from this were twenty or so rugs that were purchased by Mr Fenwick of Fenwick’s of Newcastle, they sold out in two weeks! Our Queen’s Great Grandmother, Queen Alexandra, was also presented with an Otterburn Mill Travel Rug whilst on a visit to the north east many years earlier. The royal love affair with Otterburn tweeds and rugs give the historic mill and its products and truly royal heritage.
