Special Interest

Free to enter, this is a firm favourite for both North East residents and visitors alike.

The first thing you see as you enter the museum is the huge 34 metre steam powered ship the Turbania, which was once the fastest ship in the world.

Over the three floors, you can learn more about the maritime, scientific, and technological history of Newcastle and Tyneside, covering everything from a visual representation of the population increase and industrialisation of the land along the Tyne, to a journey through Newcastle from the Romans to the 2000s.

Children will love the soft play area, the fabulous inventions, which are often interactive, as well as the under sevens water play area Play Tyne (no need for spare clothes as waterproof protection is provided)
